The Land Of Opportunity

Monday 11/05/07

Freedom, that's what this country is all about isn't it? Everyday we make choices...when to get up, what to eat, how to spend our time, where to spend our money and so on. In this country we have more choices than in any other place in the world.

The question is what do you do with the choices we've been given?

Most people take plan "A". The deal with plan "A" is you go to school, get your education, find a job, and try to get ahead. After some period of time, you realize that you aren't getting ahead. As a matter of fact most people in plan "A" are getting further behind as time progresses. What do you do?

Here's where choice comes in, you can choose to work more hours for more money, but you realize that it doesn't work. You just get tired, disillusioned, and get sick of getting up and going to the same job at the same place making barely enough to survive. Why do most people do this?

Because they don't realise that this is a choice. We are preconditioned to live like this by society. Society tells us to work hard, get more education, get better jobs and finally we will realise the American Dream. But it doesn't work.

So we have to make another choice, do we keep on going doing the same thing and expecting different results? That is the lie that many buy into. They watch other people on TV who have been successful and ask themselves why can't I be that person? What they don't realise is that they can! They just have to make the choice to be successful and then go out and make it happen. Ever wonder why people from other countries caom here and end up owning their own businesses? You see them all the time, greek pizza shops, chineese take out resturants, the sterotypical 7 eleven. Why are they making it when we, who have grown up in this country aren't?

Simple, they recoignized opportunity and they are willing to work to make it happen. They were smart enough and different enough to realize that there are all kinds of opportunities here and they picked one and went for it. They came from lives where there were no opportunities and jumped at the chance to work hard to change their place in society.

So the next time you are in your living room surviving in quiet desperation, wondering how to pay the bills, ask yourself this...What opportunities am I passing by because I either don't recognize them, or I'm too scared to take the plunge?

As for me, I've plunged in with both feet, I've failed before, but I'm off and running again because I refuse to accept that I have to live my life the way society tells me I am supposed to. Oh and by the way, I'm learning more then I could by getting my MBA because I have to live off my inginuity and willingness to look to people who are successful and duplicate what they have done to get to where they are. And I'm having a great time moving forward towards the dream. See you all in the winners circle.

If you want to know what I'm doing and how I'm making out, keep checking back for updates. It's gonna be a wild ride!
