Freedom.
What does it really mean?
For those of us who have grown up in this country it's kind of obscure. In order to understand freedom you have to have experienced some loss of freedom. Most people in this country have never seen the things that go on in the rest of the world. If they have seen some of the things that go on, they have never experienced them first hand. What would you do if you couldn't get up when you wanted and go to the job you have now? What if you couldn't get any kind of job at all? What if you had no place to stay? What if it didn't matter when you woke up or where you went because there was absolutely nothing to look forward to? What if there was no hope of any kind of a future?
What if the government could do anything they wanted to you any time they wanted to and there was nothing that you could do about it? What if they could take everything you worked for along with your spouse and children and leave you sitting there with absolutely nothing and no hope of ever finding out what happened or what you did to deserve that kind of loss?
Believe it or not there are thousands of men and women that have offered their service and their very life so you and I can exercise the freedom to live our lives the way we see fit. How do you respond to that kind of sacrifice?
It's simple. Take every second you've got and use it wisely to make your world or your neighbors world a better place. Stop looking at others and thinking that they have had opportunities that you have not. Maybe they have, so what? Right now, you have the opportunity to do whatever you want, whenever you want because of the men and women that have fought and died for you in order that you can exercise that right. You have the right to be successful or not. You have the right to seek a higher education, or a better job, or a better relationship, or a different church, or a completely different life if you want.
You just have to quit complaining, quit being scared, quit being lazy, quit being indecisive, and go use the freedom that you have been given that has been paid for so dearly. And while you are at it, thank someone you know who has served in the US armed service for their commitment and dedication towards securing the very freedom you enjoy every day.
My greatest thanks to all who have served and secured the freedom that I myself enjoy. May the grace and peace of God be with you wherever you are. It is my solemn vow to use the freedom that you have purchased for me as wisely as I can every day as long as I still have breath.
